Certification Test Procedures

Translator/Interpreter contacts APTS Member Services at (admin@arabtranslators.org) to apply for the test. The applicant's CV must be attached to the application. APTS Member Services may request other information or documentation as may be required. All candidates for the certification test must meet education and experience prerequisites, with a BACHELOR DEGREE AS A MINIMUM, and must provide proof of education and work experience. Candidates must also carefully read our Professional Code of Ethics. (Important Notice: Tests may be taken online. All certifications obtained through online testing will expire on December 31st, 2014. If you pass the test, and if you have already ordered a certificate and a stamp, they remain valid; i.e. you do not have to order a new certificate and a new stamp. All Members are urged to renew their certification by re-taking the test in person under the supervision of Certification Examiners. MAINTAINING VALID CREDENTIALS is an essential requirement for
MAINTAINING APTS MEMBERSHIP).

APTS Member Services find the nearest examiner to the Translator’s/Interpreter’s location.

APTS Member Services contact the Examiner to check availability and set an appointment.

APTS Member Services selects test questions commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience,
and sends the test questions to the examiner, Test duration is two (2) hours. The test fee is US $ 50, payable to the Certification Examiner, for his/her time and effort.

Examiner administers the test. Examiner shall provide a PC with MS Word, dictionaries and Internet connection. Alternatively, the Translator/Interpreter may also use his/her own portable PC, and may use any media/knowledgebase he/she normally uses at his place of work.

Examiner emails the soft MS Word file to APTS Member Services.

Examiner prints the test answers. Both the Translator/Interpreter and the Examiner sign all the test pages.
In the event an objection is raised by the Translator/Interpreter on test results, the Examiner sends the signed test papers as .PDF to APTS Member Services, if needed. Otherwise, the Examiner shall keep the signed papers on file.

APTS Member Services send the test results to both the translator and the Examiner.

APTS Member Services forward test results to the Certification Committee for grading. Committee Members are not informed of the Translator’s/Interpreter’s name. The test result is reported back to APTS Member Services as “Pass or Fail” only. However, Committee Members must keep a detailed record of the graded papers, to be used if needed.
APTS Member Services informs the Translator/Interpreter of the test result.
Any communication related to test results or the testing process must be addressed to APTS Member Services only. Committee Members and Translators/Interpreters taking the test may not communicate directly.
